Joanie's Wire Wrapped Jewelry - The Process

Please start with Part One of my projects about Joanie's work here

Here is a close up of the process Joanie uses to wrap gemstones. This pendant is made with Malachite http://www.gemologyonline.com/malachite.html

Joanie works very quickly as you can see in these shots. Nothing is measured except by eye and hand.
Lining up the four strands of copper wire before wrapping the stone.
Finger nails are tools in this workroom.
And Pliers of all types, shapes and sizes. These are some investment hand tools.
Finishing the anchor
Lining up the stone
The critical moment
Shaping the opening
And it's in
Now to anchor it firmly within the wires
Lovely!
Making the bale to hold a chain
Now comes the embellishment
It looks like nothing is happening...
But, voilà! The wire is now curled.
After this shot, I have abouit 8 shots of blurred hands and fingers. And then...
Out pops this! I was there, but I'm not sure how this happened. Somehow it was quick and hidden. I don't think that the photos would help you be able to copy this intricacy but I still wish I had managed to capture the action.
And now - Joanie is critiquing and correcting details only she can see.
Above is Joanie's photo of the finished piece. I love it and think it is beautiful and unique. I have some feelings about buying American and buying local, so Joanie's work appeals to me in ways beyond the artistic. But as art - I love this work even more now after seeing it created in person.

Here is Part Three with more information about Joanie and her work:
