Project Objective - Brand Overview & My Role
Hyundai Development Company (HDC) is one of the Korean leading company who works in a wide range of fields, including construction, manufacture, petrochemistry, distribution PM/FM, health care, finance, and even leisure and sports. In particular, HDC offers an integrated solution for construction business which covers from planning to design, supply, building, and maintenance services. It is also well known for its premium apartment brand system "I Park" for the first time in Korea.
I've worked on the HDC bimonthly corporate magazine cover project for two years, from December, 2012, with a commissioned by the agency I Publics. HDC corporate magazine is published twice a month, and illustration work was carried out on the basis of its main business concept - "Construction". One of the main challenges of this project was to break the HDC's existing stern and formal image, and establishing its unique character and style with an innovative brand image. 
 
Design Concept - Brandness
Dedicating itself to various business industries including construction, culture, and lifestyle, HDC has pursued
its vision as a global company by steadily expanding the business. It is also a passionate company which has sought the human-centered construction culture for customer by constantly researching and developing the Korean life style trend based on the feedback from customers, beyond just construction to design and build an optimized space for human.
And HDC bimonthly corporate magazine provides the staff with the company's vision and core value by combining the HDCness with the company news, interview with the employees, and residential environment trend. So I brought the concept of the HDC's vision, "Innovation" and "Value Creator", into the corporate magazine cover design, through the characterful illustration containing the HDC's brand image, such as HDC's construction site, structure, and building which HDC was designing or has started the construction. 
 
Concept Keyword
Progressive
Based on innovative idea and value creation, HDC is fearless of untried challenge and ceaseless R&D investment to develop itself into a global leading developer. It delivers the HDC's progressive and smart brand image by using the balanced and expandable grid system. 
 
Customer Friendly
As a customer-friendly company, HDC has provided the optimized solution based on the feedback from the customers and also tried hard to improve the quality of the customers' general lives. It delivers the HDC's friendly image through vivid colors and miniature characters.
 
Korean Style 
As one of the Korea's Top 30 companies, it has dedicated itself to improve the quality of people's lives and raise Korea's position in the world through the global strategy. HDC also has made its utmost efforts to create the most suitable residential space and complex cultural space specially for Korean. It delivers a brand image to pursue Korean spirit and style, by using Korean nature scenery and life style.
 
 
Design Essence & Illustration Element Library
It represents a Korean image along with its various brand images, by defining a various color palette which can be harmonized with the authentic Korean image and Korean four seasons, and the red color, a primary color of the HDC.
And Prelo Slab was chosen for a display typography, considering the formative characteristic of the word mark. Prelo Slab is excellent in delivering the HDC's progressive and credible brand image, since its decorative elements seem not to be too much and also has a stable formativeness, as a Slab Serif font.
Grid system is one of the important elements to set up the HDC's unique illustration style on the corporate magazine cover. Different visual elements are combined on the isometric grid to achieve a harmonization.
