‘International’ in Jarasum International Jazz Festival (JIJF) is not just inviting foreign artists from other countries. It is more than enough to call the festival ‘international’ since during the 10 times festivals, 41 countries 535 artists visited the festival. However, this is not the end of the ‘international’ part. The festival steps outside of Korea, international cooperation are being actively operated. Yearly project ‘National Focus Project’ that intensively introduces a specific country to the audience has been worked together with the countries’ embassies and/or cultural institutes. Also, the festival has visited major Asian jazz festivals and signed MOU with them.

Jarasum International Jazz Festival
 
JIJF is held every October on the beautiful Jarasum Island in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. During the festival world-famous jazz artists come together to delight audiences with the smooth vibes of live jazz.
 
 
Festival Visual Identity Concept
 
JIJF is jazz festival which for promote jazz to the public. But, many people thought that jazz is difficult genre. Furthermore, JIJF's existing design tone is so outdated that can't appeal Jazz genre to young peoples. So, We make the most of the illustration and pattern in oder to public come across the jazz more easily.
 
JIJF held every year on the jarasum which is comprised of world famous jazz artists. Brand concept is Ranning jazz that various artist and melody of jazz descend to jarasum. We visualize impromptu and dynamic rythmn of Jazz to the pattern, and define the brand color to dark hue but warm color palette considering musical characteristic of the Jazz and night-opening time.

Body Typography (Korean) - SD Myeongjo Neo
Illustration - Jazz Artist (Singer / Cellist / Drummer / Saxophonist / Trumpeter / Guitarlist)

Festival Identity Design Application
 
The festival was designated as one of the “Outstanding Festivals” for three consecutive years by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and as one of the “Top Festivals”. As a Green Life Honorary Ambassador, the festival is also passionate about environment protection. In order to share the external growth with the community, the festival holds a Gapyeong band contest, publishes a Gapyeong restaurant guidebook, and produces Jazz Makgeolli, Jazz Wine and Jazz Vin caud made from the region’s products.

The 10th Jarasum International Jazz Festival 2013
JIJF Graphic Design Award 2013 - Grand Prize
 
This project was awarded the grand prize in a JIJF graphic design award which held to greet the 10th anniversary of Jarasum International Jazz Festival. Brand Illustration and graphic pattern was used to all of festival brand application ( Festival Md, editorial, Signage, Regional product...) without restriction of format and contents. Brand color and Brand typography was changed in the process of actual working.
