HOW DO YOU GET A SOCIAL SCIENCE BOOK TO THE #1 SPOT ON AMAZON ON LAUNCH DAY?
client: Jared Duval //  Next Generation Democracy
project: Social Media strategy and execution for “Next Generation Democracy: What the Open-Source Revolution Means for Power, Politics, and Change”
dates: December 2010
tags: social media strategy, social media execution, book launch, civic engagement

Next Generation Democracy was a book we believed in, and when Jared Duval asked us to help spread the word we were happy to help and our social media efforts helped him take the #1 spot on Amazon for his field that day.

We helped spread the word about Next Generation Democracy by leveraging the social web - writing blog posts, interviewing experts and influencers, tweeting, and sharing user-generated content during the weeks leading up to the launch event.

Here’s what Jared said at the conclusion of the project:

“They start by taking the time to get a very clear sense of the context of who you are and what you are trying to accomplish. They then bring their unique and forward-thinking understanding of online community building and strategic thinking to bear on your project. With their guidance, I was better able to clarify my goals and then together we identified the most timely and important priorities in order to achieve those goals, divvying up responsibility for getting things done on a tight time-line. In large part due to their work, my book became the best-selling title in Amazon's Democracy and Civics categories on the day of its publication - no small feat for a largely unknown, first-time author!”
