"A "meme" is an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture. A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures.
For example, we can see a collective practical of the web in the "Harlem Shake”'s meme, way of considering different numerical usings. Towards them, our behaviours and sensibility are suffering very huge mutations. Becoming conscient and sometimes part of this actuals transformations is the interesting point of view for us, like artists in residency in a highschool, on the invitation of the MAC/VAL, Museum of Contemporary Art of Vitry/Seine, in the suburbs of Paris, France.
There, we have thought a project based on the "Hadoken", a way to revisit the traditional class portraiture, playing with different movements inspired by video games (Street fighter for example). We have imaginated this sort of communication between teachers and students of the highschool...
It s also a way of speaking about active social links in there.
From a defined list of body movements, extracted from video games, students are striking a pose in the air like the Darth Vader Chokehold's, the Doble Kamehameha's, the M.Bison Leviatation's, the Mega Buster's, the Vader + Bison Psycho Mantis'...
- We invited the duo of french graphic designers "My name is Wendy" to do the edition with us for their special graphic view.
Then we decided together to convert and print our hadokening's population on stickers, elements of an edition called "Leporello", a kind of big gatefold. Without any indication to paste stickers on it, people are free to make their own piece of art by putting the stickers wherever they want."

"The design of the edition was thought taking account of the specific form of the book. We created a sort of « panorama » or « landscape » from a grid with regular cells.The idea was to obtain a variation code in the lines and the curves in order to create a « score » which meets and welcomes the gestural richness of hadokening's population. The matters create depths and evokes the energy of movements. The stickers delivered with the art book allowed people to create their own poetic narration."
