Whalemail is a web service that brings transactional email development to the modern age of web development. This helps to solve the long-standing issue of building and especially updating transactional emails that is extremely inefficient and tedious.

Whalemail integrates a few key features that greatly improve this process. It's built on git, meaning that it will already fit in your workflow and introduces more than just versioning into your email system. It connects with GitHub and BitBucket to work with most developers. Whalemail also features continuous integration. Now a user will get notified if code on an email passes or fails before it's pushed. This prevents awkward emails sent out with incorrect variables, or code that doesn't validate causing noticeable formatting issues. Finally, it also includes an automated robust build system for optimization and development. This includes a proprietary and unique template engine that allows for quick updates. Typically, if a company or service wanted to update a header, or logo, it required a developer to go into each email template, painstakingly update code, and save versions. Whalemail's templating system allows users to inject HTML modules into the email, so a user can insert a "Header" module into the top of each email, then when the header needs updating, can update an individual module instead of every email.

Built with the team at 52inc. Main roles in project involved taking lead on branding and identity of the product, building splash pages (pun intended), full marketing site (including concept, design, and copywriting), and design of all transactional emails (transactional email designs for a transactional email service...how meta). Coming from a designer point of view, this required heavy research, including interviews of multiple developers, consistent revisions, and re-approval and confirmations. Overall, a very meticulous and painstaking process; however, the product has been initially well received and successful.
Whalemail is currently in development with the team over at 52inc, but will be pushed into beta Spring 2017.
