Dynamic City II

Concrete, wood, metal and glass interlock to create an installation for a contemporary take on the 1919 avant-garde painting of Gustav Klutsis, Dynamic City. We were asked by the director of the Greek’s State Museum of Contemporary Art to create an artwork for the retrospective exhibition of this major member of the constructivist avant-garde in the early 20th century. In collaboration with the designer Axel Peemöller, the work resulted in a three-dimensional object that relies on the principal values of the original painting. The construction materials are interlocked to create a bold sculpture, extending the exploration of the original work and the relationship between forms and space.
