Brief
To raise awareness of the issue of endangered species to children, through packaging design.
Solution
I decided to create packaging for a new brand of ice cream that promoted the organisation 'WWF' (World Wide Fund for Nature) that parents would want to buy for their children, and that would in turn get children asking questions about what endangered animals are, and what we can do to help.
As the product was aimed towards children, I wanted to make the packaging bright with friendly and quirky illustrations of endangered animals, but I still wanted it sophisticated enough that it would catch the eye of the parents who would be purchasing the product. I decided on the brand name 'Cheeky Panda Ice Cream' as I felt it had a playful and charming ring to it, appealing to children and parents alike.
Focussing on four endangered animals for the designs of the tubs: Red Pandas, Snow Leopards, Cheetahs and Rhinos: I created fun names for the flavours that went in hand with what the animals were doing in the illustrations. For example 'Strawberry Daydream' shows a red panda curled up on a giant strawberry, daydreaming about strawberries!
The packaging includes information on the back, describing the animal shown on the front, where it's natural habitat is and how many are left in the wild, as well as a link to the WWF website so people will be encouraged to search and learn more about these endangered species, what WWF are doing to help and how we can help out too.
