The Twelve Insanities - 7. “Excuse”
About the art itself: This drawing came fairly late among the 72 drawings in my series. By this time, i was comfortable tying new things and not worried about getting every detail technically perfect. That's good because this is a drawing with lots of meaningful details. Each person in the streaming line is unique in some way. I'm not particularly talented at drawing faces, but I can manage to capture the differences in people from a distance. Look at the people closes to the arrow sign which points right. Each one is different in posture, attire, height, and gait. I created these differences by working very quickly and relying on instincts. The officer commands more attention than any other figures, which is appropriate considering his role in the picture. As for the rest of the drawing, the water texture was a well-established technique by this time so I put more effort into creating a somewhat natural appearance to the trees, bushes, and fields which line the walking routes.
