The task was to choose a piece of classical music, this case Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in G Minor. From there we had to listen to the music and create an album cover for it. We see three people standing alone between the leafless trees on an Easter morning none of us would like. On top of that I have placed the very ornate representation of the titles of the piece. I feel like having a decorative design on top of Easter Morning allows for a nice juxtaposition in the imagery, from sullen to elegant. Just as in the music where we start in a sullen slow tempo minor key but then we hear the tempo and scale runs speed up later on in the song.
In the music of Ballade No. 1 we hear very somber tones, being that it is in the minor key this will always be evident. It starts slow with basic chordal structures and sweeping melodies and then moves into the faster and more frantic running of the scale later on. In my design I wanted to create something that represented elegance of the piece while still portraying how sad the music is. Having the background image be Caspar's Easter Morning in the background is my tone setter for the minor key of the song.
Ballade No. 1 encompasses such a wide swath of emotion that representing it all here would be merely impossible. However with the combination of Caspar's Easter Morning and the elegance of ornate design I feel like a nice middle ground has formed to display what this music truly means.
