CityNews Mobile Apps
Provided UX oversight and input in the development of the CityNews iPhone and iPad Apps.
The CityNews iPad app was designed for both portrait and landscape orientations. Both apps share similar navigation schema, but implemented in very different ways.
CityNews Weather drove a significant amount of traffic on the CityNews website. In fact, when interviewed, users commented that they rely on it. We also discovered that the Weather Webcast is what they valued the most, as it was unique to CityNews - there are many other apps with forecasts. As such, we prioritized the webcast in the experience.
The map was the innovative feature of the application: being able to represent news items (both from the newsroom and submitted by users) as pins on the map. A tap would bring up a summary, a further tap would open that article.
