Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has several tools used by medical organizations to manage their Medicare and Medicaid information in terms of how patients get assigned to those organizations under the Affordable Care Act.
I worked as a sole UX designer on a CMS project to help guide one of those softwares on the path to better design and usability.

Some of the things I was able to do:
1. Conduct initial user research using one on one interviews and software walkthroughs to identify main pain points and major usability issues. Results were presented to stakeholders and also shared widely throughout the project and with leadership as an effort to show the usability issues that needed to be fixed.
This also helped define some quick UI design tasks that could help alleviate some problems in the short term and could be worked easily into development sprint cycles
2. Created designs working alongside an agile team and helping to put those designs in production.
3. Conducted a UI audit of the software as a final handoff near my time on the project's end, to help the agile team continue their work.

So many skills were involved: interfacing with stakeholders and product owners, roadmapping, wireframing and getting designs ready for developers, understanding user and client needs, and working alongside an agile team and understanding better how agile works and how to best benefit from it.

I'd love to talk more about this, feel free to email khans1025@gmail.com.
