How can we strengthen our connection with local communities?

Challenge
As part of our on-going development of the Eika brand, Mission was commissioned to design a branded retail concept for the local branches of Eika. “By your side” is Eika’s purpose statement, it reflects their commitment to supporting local banks and the members of those communities by providing easy access to world-class financial resources. To reinforce this level of service, Eika went against the trend for reducing high street presence and in instead chose to focus on the physical presence of local Eika branches.
Solution
We felt the interiors needed to feel more approachable, side stepping the authoritative nature of banks for a more inviting atmosphere. We defined the space into intuitive functional zones including: reception, waiting areas, meeting points and open office areas, guiding visitors to where they needed to be and making them feel at ease in meetings. The use of furniture, lighting and plants were consciously planned to allow for comfort, accessibility, privacy and flow. The décor embraces a balanced contemporary banking environment with a natural Scandinavian aesthetic, introducing soft materials such as felt and natural oak. A central element to the décor features handmade prints from the rings of oak trees representing Eika’s longevity, strength and growth.

Result
The retail concept has been successfully implemented in a few branches already, and there is a strong interest at the top management to further implement the concept across Eika’s 80 alliance members in the coming years.
