Svínafellsjökull is a stunning glacier in Iceland's Vatnajökull National Park and one of many glaciers that make up the Vatnajökull ice cap - the largest glacier in Iceland and one of the largest in Europe, covering an area of about 8,000 square kilometers. Vatnajökull is also home to several active volcanoes, making it a place of great geological importance.

In the movie Interstellar, Svínafellsjökull glacier was used as one of the filming locations to depict the icy planet where the protagonist Cooper and his team land on in search of a new habitable world for humanity. The glacier's otherworldly appearance, with its blue ice and dramatic crevasses, provided the perfect backdrop for the movie's visual effects team to create a believable otherworldly environment. The scenes filmed on the glacier include the landing of the spacecraft and the exploration of the planet's surface by the crew.
