#ReplaceTheHate Poster Project

#ReplaceTheHate Poster Project
The goal of this project was to create an image to go onto posters, shirts, and sidewalk art as part of the #ReplaceTheHate movement. I focused on gender protection rights by putting a spin in the quote: "Protect your Fellow Man".

I started by hand-drawing two sample draft options, then digitizing them:
The first one was inspired by a wooden shield that have carved etchings of every gender symbol centered by a large heart. As much as I liked that idea, it started to become complicated, given I had a limited amount of time and eventually working on a system I wasn't comfortable with.

The second drawing was based on a human chain at a peaceful protest. I wanted to showcase multiple genders and identities. To me, this was much easier to handle.

The typeface I chose to continue with was Ranille Normal-Regular for its natural bold, and its noticeable serifs so that the message can be legible from far distances.

I decided that the second drawing was the better option. From there, I sampled colors and backgrounds. Keeping it simple, I tried out a colorless background and a colored background sample:
Although the white background made things pop a little more, the rainbow background really brought the message forward.

I experimented with this design in a single color, then reversed it:
I chose this yellow as the single color so that if the poster was to be printed in one color, it would still be very noticable.
Finally, I created mockups on a shirt, posters, and sidewalk art:
With the rainbow background, I feel like it is a very natural design to see on apparel, like t-shirts. It is a great visualization of a person’s stance on both a daily basis and for stronger needs, like protests.
