We Are Watching You

We Are Watching You, is a project that explores the different effects that surveillance has on society. By using government spy vernacular, the reader is taken into the world of not only watching but also being watched. As a participant, you are then asked about the legitimacy of voyeurism vs. security and how this impacts life in a society with no privacy.

This project began with a simple task; a self portrait. When I began to document my self around my apartment I became increasingly more aware of what it was like to be watched in voyeuristic fashion. The study of being watched then expanded to include the streets around me and ultimately society as a whole. I began to contrast the ways in which government (legal and illegal) watches their citizens and how the people being watched reacted to the surveillance. A set of dossiers were created to house all of my research and interviews along with a reference guide, surveillance packet, forged passports and audio recordings.
