Richard J. Klarchek Information Commons
Chicago, Illinois
Working in tandem with Solomon Cordwell Buenz Architects,CharterSills Architectural Lighting Design developed the lighting solutions forthe new Richard J. Klarchek Information Commons at Loyola University.

The Information Commons is a state of the art study center with hundreds of computer workstations, help centers, group seminar rooms, and classrooms. The building is a 67,000 square foot, four-story glass structure that maximizes theavailable natural light. The natural is balanced with artificial light controlled by daylight harvesting digital ballasts contained within T5fluorescent indirect/direct pendant fixtures to illuminate the space. The pendant fixtures hang within pre-cast concrete ceiling vaults and house photo cells to collect daylight data for the system. The linear fixtures were custommodified to fit within the vault space, illuminate the vault ceiling, and provide visual interest to the space.
