Town of Mosman Park Mosman Bay Sandcastles Project

Client:       Town of Mosman Park
Project:     Public Service Brand

The Sandcastles Project is a vision by the Town of Mosman Park to bring back the beach at Mosman Bay to restore the historic connection between local residents and the river.

Reason for change
The restoration of the foreshore at Mosman Bay was a community project that had to happen. The beach, which used to be a playground for local families through summer, had long since washed away. The wall that remained to protect the foreshore was itself in danger of disappearing into the river. However, for the project to happen, the Town of Mosman Park needed the community to get behind it.

Change delivered
To capture the community’s imagination, the project needed a name. Something that signified what the project was about. ‘The Sandcastles Project’ was invented by Mindfield in reference to the key project objective of restoring the beach. The project identity featuring kids building a sandcastle connects the project with the community and reminds us of why natural assets such as Mosman Bay are important.

To reach and engage the community, DIA Brands developed an integrated communications package. An online presence for the project was created, direct mail touched people at home, updates and advertisements were placed in local newspapers, signage was installed at the project site and PR was used to generate awareness.

The community responded by getting involved. Their ideas and suggestions became a Management Plan, which was endorsed by the Council.
The project is now moving to the next stage.
