Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research is Western Australia’s premier adult medical research institute. Focusing on cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes, the institute research teams comprising doctors, scientists, biostatisticians, pathologists and epidemiologists, are working together with cutting edge technologies to make new discoveries and translate this new knowledge into more effective treatments and cures. 

Reason for change
The Institute was founded in 1998 as the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR). The late Harry Perkins AO, was the inaugural Chairman and largely responsible for the Institute’s creation. In 2013, it was announced that WAIMR would be renamed the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in his honour.

Change delivered
Through our work with Wesfarmers, including when Harry Perkins was its Chairman, we had an understanding of the man and also what his contribution meant to the institute.

The idea to use Harry’s signature as the brand was one of many identity ideas we presented. However, the emotional and visual connection from using his personal mark as the brand was unanimously chosen as the right idea.

The result is a unique brand for a unique organisation that is seeking to be a world leader in medical research.
