OnTrac Connect is a web-based software solution used by hundreds of businesses all over the UK, to create and distribute Safe System of Work packs for contractors working within the rail industry. An accompanying iPad app allows responsible engineers to download and store all the information they need during a job to ensure a safe working environment for their team.
My Roles: Strategy + UX/IxD/UI Design
Connect has been around for a long time, replacing an old paper-based process - reducing what used to be hours of work to just minutes. My team were brought in to provide UX consultancy and a visual overhaul to improve usability, performance and customer satisfaction.
This process involved a comprehensive usability audit, as well as one-to-one user-testing sessions and workshops with key clients to discover hidden pain-points. There were many processes that were unnecessarily long-winded or confusing, which were reviewed and redesigned.
Key areas of the application were re-designed completely, and entirely new areas introduced in response to our research, whilst keeping as much of the original application in-tact as possible, reducing the risk of confusion when the changes were rolled-out.
These designs were tested, presented and designed to fit with On:Trac's corprate identity.
Whilst key screens were specifically re-designed, a more general "visual toolkit" was provided, allowing the OnTrac development team to roll-out the re-design to other areas of the application quickly and efficiently.
