It is I, Juho. Young, a somewhat pessimistic but passionate art student from Finland. My main focus is in sculpting but I enjoy a wide variety of arts. I denounce tautologies and think that while traditions are important, we should actively work towards breaking and rebuilding them.

For me to be human means trying to break the limits of what we think humanity can achieve. One could call me a nihilist because I tend to see the emptiness that lies beyond thoughts, ideals and actions. However that is necessarily not the case. It is not that I'm not a nihilist, I am, but I believe that only by acknowledging that our traditions and values are based on nothing absolute can we, as species, transcend our limits and rise above what it means to be human.

In post-modern life in the western "civilization" I think art, philosophy and humanist and/or existentialist line of thought are the solution to the crisis faced by our way of life. Capitalism and consumerism are not sustainable and most importantly they are degrading. A human being, the unique experience and "soul" if you will, should not be reduced to a mere consumer or a worker. As our technology is now, we really could end poverty and world hunger. The driving forces preventing that are neoliberal capitalism and the hedonistic, consuming-based way of life. Should we, as humankind, decide to concentrate our efforts on helping our kin and at the same time evolving culturally and scientifically, in my opinion the world would be a better place.

Art, as I see it, is a tool on achieving this. To change how we see ourselves as humans and how we experience the universe can be influenced and researched by artistic means. That is why I strongly suggest everyone to try making art, writing, thinking and sharing the results. Perhaps something could be learned.

Me, I'm an idiot. A fool and a talentless slob, but that's exactly the point. I want to inspire everyone to do what I do - trial and error, a little bit of learning and human growth. Read Less
