I surrender / Antautuminen

Aluminum, 2016

Like in many works of mine, I've tried to implement interesting contrasts into this one. It portraits a firm, hard figure suspended "moving", falling on fluidic metal spikes emerging from a pool of silvery aluminum.

On the other hand it could be viewed as negative: the person is falling, helpless and being stabbed by spikes. Pain and anxiety are visible from the setting.
On the other hand it has a message of comfort; every human being needs to surrender, to let go, to fall freely and know that even failing is ok.
it is at the very base of human condition, i.e. the freedom to fall is the only thing that prevents us from cumbling under the weight of the world. All we can do is hope that someone or something would catch us, like warm, thick pool of water.
