Biography
Dan Bittman earned a Bachelor's of Science in Graphic Design in 1970 from the University of Cincinnati. He founded his studio, Design Team, in 1981 and has taught graphic design at Northern
Kentucky University and the University of Cincinnati where he also served on the Alumni Advisory Board. Dan currently teaches graphic design at AIC College of Design. He is a past president of The Art Directors Club of Cincinnati as well as the region’s chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts. Bittman has lectured across the United States at numerous colleges, universities and professional gatherings
including the AIGA National Conference and IDSA Worldesign. Bittman’s work has been the subject of articles in publications such as Metropolis, ID, Print and Communications Arts Magazine; and has been recognized with inclusion in permanent collections in France and China and awards from numerous exhibitions including CA, AIGA, CLIO and ID. Bittman has served as a juror for AIGA, Art Directors, and advertising competitions across the country, as well as the prestigious Communication Arts Magazine CA Annual. In 2011 Bittman was awarded the AIGA Fellow Medal.

Plain Talk for Graphic Designers is a Textbook created for Graphic Design students and young professionals isolating and simply illustrating ten strategies for arriving at impactful and effective communications design solutions.
 
Communication Objective
The graphic design community has access to many good books on subjects such as layout, typography, color, logos and grids as well as interesting treatises covering semiotics, context, syntax and the gestalt. Still Dan Bittman felt he needed to create his own text to effectively teach his Design Methodologies classes. Written for design students and young professionals, “Plain Talk for Graphic Designers” simply and clearly pinpoints ten basic strategies that, thoughtfully utilized, will make any designer's communications work more impactful and effective.
