Biography
Albert Junghwan Son is a senior graphic design student at Parsons the New School for Design in New York. Son believes that good design is a universal language which is easily accessible and communicable in daily lives. Thus, Son is interested in observing mundane objects, experimenting with silly but fun ideas that pop up in the process and, eventually, bringing cool facts of life to design.

Description
The Bitter Sip serves coffee like any other coffee shop, yet it provides thought-provoking statistics for customers to contemplate issues of racism, homophobia, sexism, ableism, ageism and fat discrimination. The consumer is informed through smart design while enjoying their cup of coffee.

Communication Objective
By creating an environment that evokes real-life situations of people being discriminated, The Bitter Sip offers the consumer a hands-on and tangible understanding of social issues. The image of a hand on the coffee cup suddenly tells a story about racism, when filled with different colors of coffee. Zero calorie sugar states that it is “for fat people only”, a powerful and succinct message designed to inspire the consumer to re-think sizeism bias, while still moving through their busy day.
