The main objective of the Editorial Magazine project was to demonstrate our ability to handle a large amount of copy while using good type pairings and composition. We were to choose a specified road trip from a travel magazine and use the article as our body copy, while also trying to capture the essence of the location.

I started off by doing research via Google Maps. I plugged in each location discussed in the article and took the virtual road trip myself. Along the way, I took screenshots, which I later drew from for my thematic illustrations (like the paneling on the roof of a kiosk, for instance). Although they didn't make the final cut, it helped me to get a better feel for the place. I ended up primarily using the typefaces Playfair Display, Dancing Script and Bodoni because they mirrored what I saw in my research - they are refined and reflect an old-world sophistication, but at the same time, they are lively enough to go on vacation and soak in the hot Italian sun.
