Kitchen Findings

"KITCHEN FINDINGS"

This is a tribute to all the surrealist painters out there. People familiar will definitely see the resemblance to Jason De Graaf or Pedro Campos.

Idea:
In Kitchen Findings the title already says it all. Its a collection of things you´d find looking around in an open kitchen.

Process:
As always all the parts / textures / shaders are made for this image. No library were used. The HDRI again is from Maxime Roz. The light-bulb model already existed. I modeled it for another project Years ago but refurbished it by cleaning the mesh / UVing it and giving it new Materials.
The Egg shell was made using Cinema 4Ds Volumes tools. It therefore has way to many polys (so I turned them off in the wire because it was showing solid black).

Materials:
Since Octane Version 2018 there is Vertex Map support. A feature that comes in handy when making used edges on the furniture and effects to vary texture appearance based on meshflow.
Its not as quick to setup as dirt based used edges, but it has the advantage of rendering faster and is not giving artifacts on intersections with other objects in the scene.
The materials are all kept rather procedural again. You can see that if you look at the partly really long node trees.

Tech Specs:
Modeled in Maxon C4D R20
Textured and shaded and rendered in Otoy Octane Render V 2018.1.3
Rendered in 4K 3840 X 2160 px.
Render time was around 30 min on 8 GPU´s (5 X GTX 1080Ti, 3 X GTX 980Ti)
Diffuse Depth 16
Glossy Depth 64

The render time were caused mainly due to high glossy depth (64) and dispersion in the glass as well as heavy use of SSS (Jelly beans, egg shell, peach)

As always I hope you like my work. Thank you for your time.

PROCESS
There The process with this image was quite straight forward. If you take in consideration that I struggled quite a bit with the last still life I did "Work Life" and it took so long to produce. This was a far more pleasant experience as it felt very streamlined. But of course the project scope was not nearly as big.
LIGHTING & COMP
There is not a lot to the lighting. It is lit mostly by the HDRI and then went through my usual compositing pipeline: Color Correction, Glow, Refinement, Lens Aberration, Final Adjustments, Grain
KITCHEN FINDINGS CLAY
KITCHEN FINDINGS WIRE 1

All was modeled using Subdivision Surface techniques. Though I have to say there are a couple of tris and one or two n-gons in the mesh, most of it consists of nice quads. Funny enough i struggled most getting the edge rounding on the dice right. Some things are just more complicated then you first think
