Oscar Akermo is one of the most successful tattoo artists in the world, known as a member of the famous Bang Bang New York tattoo studio. He asked us to design a simple, typographic-based, minimalist image for his own brand. Akermo’s trademark is the masterful use of contrasts and transitions, so we have built on these in his identity design as well. The logo combines classical and modern fonts, with his first name in the background (debossed on his business cards, which also refers to the relationship between skin surface and tattoo), and his family name in a more classical, serif font. We also used special gradient dyeing on his business cards and the cards’ edges, in a complementary way: the white corners of the sheets meet a black surface of the edge etc. The same gradient effect appears on Akermo’s website as well.
