Illustration for The Goya Journal's 1000 Kitchens Series

Goya Journal is an independent culinary publication. They describe themselves on their website as "Using mediums as diverse as photoessays, podcasts, videos, long-form narratives, even listicles, employing voices across disciplines, we aim to offer insight into culture, politics and identity, to create a multifarious narrative around food".
I was commissioned to illustrate for their 1000 Kitchens feature where they document traditional recipes from various local cuisines.
Illustration depicting Ms Rafiya Koya in her kitchen in Mangalore

The Brief was to create an illustration to complement the article documenting Ms Koya's recipes and the stories behind them. Painted digitally in photoshop, this artwork contains elements from her house, the city of mangalore, and the homely, intimate vibe of the publication.
The article can be read here at their website.
