The toughest race on the planet.

Official Timekeeper of the toughest race on the planet.
OMEGA is once again involved in the ocean's challenges as the official Timekeeper of the Volvo Ocean race.
How do you prove your watches can withstand the harshest conditions out at sea?
Simple: ask the competitors to wear a Seamaster Planet Ocean all the way around the world. The race spans a total of 8 months, covering an average of 40,000kms. To integrate OMEGA directly in the action, we put a watch on the wrist of every on-board reporter, shooting stills and video from each team boat.
The race on shore is just as vital as on the water. At every stop, engineers in the mobile boatyard perform a series of necessary checks and repairs on the team boats. From stripped winches, cracked carbon fibre and stitching new sails, check out the video to see more of their challenges while getting the boats race ready.
Starting with a 30sec TVC, we filmed the start of the race in Alicante, Spain, and caught up at various stops around the planet as the racers moved from port to port.
These are some of the images taken by the VOR on-board reporters.
The images worked great for social media, developing into a raw and authentic account of race events delivered straight from the from the water.
This 12m logo mobile structure was built in Newport and displayed at the remaining 4 legs of the race, following the event from port to port.
Along with the logo structure, the idea extended to a selection of images taken by the on-board reporters set up as an outdoor exhibition space.
