CHILDREN’S WORLD WAR

Exhibitoin Catalogue design for National Educational Library and Museum Budapest

The National Educational Library and Museum organised an exhibition from children’s drawings created during World War I by the title „Children’s World War – 1914–1918 in drawings”. One part of the exhibition shows the war from a child’s mindset, while the other depicts daily life in the hinterland and the battlefield imagined by children. The volume is the extended catalogue of the exhibition.

We first designed a logo for the exhibition using a pencil as the basis, engraved with the letters W.W. No. 1. The dark red colour represents the bloodshed, which also appears in several of the children’s drawings. The wavy line drawn by the pencil invokes the children’s attitude and is also a WW motif. We coupled it with a destroyed and worn typeface to reinforce the wartime atmosphere.

The colours of the catalogue invoke the yellow, faded world of the hundred-year old children’s drawings with occasional bright ink blotches.
