Wow! I was fortunate to join forces with the World Leader in Sports, ESPN, again on an interactive experience for the 2018 NBA All-Star Game. The Assignment: Illustrate all 24 all-stars and other assets.  Due to injuries, that total jumped from 24 to 28 in two weeks. Enjoy this behind the scenes look at my process in Adobe Draw.

After being shown prototypes of the finished product, I wanted to ensure that the size of the stroke, the positioning of the players' head and the size of the players' heads were consistent, so I set up a margin in a separate layer. This margin measured from the crown to the chin.

For style consistency, I worked on all the players in an "assembly line" type work flow—completing a full step on all portraits before moving to the next. Above is Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Hornets with the flat color stage missing. Kemba was a replacement for injured Kristaps Porzingis of the New York Knicks.

Above is a completed illustration of James Harden "The Beard" of the Houston Rockets. I also had to create illustrations (3 each) of LeBron James an Stephen Curry—for a header and victory poses. Here are two examples of Stephen below:
