It is one thing to create fanciful depictions of giant pufferfish or the interiors of imaginary mansions for one’s own amusement, but quite another to apply that kind of inspiration to the promotion of real-life goods and services.

Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to work with clients whose vision and daring sometimes exceeded my own. In fact, the degree of creative latitude I was given sometimes compelled me to ask, “Are you sure you want to do this?” The reply was most always, “Give me different, Pav!” And off I’d go to forge the notion they were after: a dilemma best solved by a walk in the park or the increased permeability of a fatigued mind.

Somehow, it all works out in the end. You go from nothing to a tangible concept that realizes a client’s ideals and subject matter with renewed and novel vitality. However, there is more to the process. A variety of collaborative experiences sharpen intuition by improving one’s ability to read people and establish the
boundaries and goals of their preferences. Projects become more efficient, fruitful, and satisfying. The client gets what they need in terms of product and understanding while the artist is afforded confidence enough to produce truly inspired ideas with greater dexterity and accuracy going forward.
