Nerolac Paints - A to Z Lucknow
Facade Design
Kansai Nerolac Paints Limited is the largest industrial paint and third largest decorative paint company of India based in Mumbai. As of 2015, it has the third largest market share with 15.4% in the Indian paint industry. It is engaged in the industrial, automotive and powder coating business.
Nerolac has its dealers spread throughout India. Each dealer requirement is different and based on the size of the retail space, they require a facade to be designed for engagement purposes. They need a vibrant design to adorn the area around / of the shop front in a matter that communicates the values, core purpose and messaging. The facade design/ art/ installation should enhance and extend this sense of a comfortable space to sit down and realise one’s home decor dreams to the exterior of the store as well.
The Brief
The design for the storefront needed to be done for the A - Z Home Improvement store which would act as an advertisement for Nerolac which also communicate to a potential customer the colours that they have.
The Concept
Taking inspiration from the heritage city of Lucknow, an idea was crafted that would take visual cues from the city in the form of jaalis. These grills would be metal punched progressive patterns that would reveal the beauty of the city. These jaalis would be different for every location of franchise location of Nerolac and would change based on the cities that we would be implementing in.

THE DESIGN
A simple coloured block form was explored that would display the many colours of the Nerolac brand. These blocks would be three solid extruded equilateral triangles tessellated together to form a dynamic grid. This would remain constant for all the facades whereas the jaalis would change based on the city it was to be executed. This would also help in showcasing the craft of the city and thus enable localisation in design.
