Boutique Hotel, Doha, Qatar with KEO Design

Vision
The site of the proposed hotel on Shuyukh Port is one of extraordinary privilege with commanding views both to and from a high-visibility location within the confines of Doha Bay. The vision mandates a building of iconic quality, purveyed through a confident design of enduring value.

Concept
The design explorations suggested a building that will be aesthetically and experientially complimentary to the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA). This suggests bold and confident forms and masses that are composed with a strong sculptural presence. The forms are purposely sleek and monumental, clad in polished white stone and accented with polished metal. The building will be viewed and approached from both water and land. We have responded to this high visibility opportunity with a massing concept that confidently dialogues with the Museum of Islamic Art.
The composition consists of varied heights and a striking silhouette from every approach and viewing position. The building is to be appreciated from both distance, on approach and upon arrival. Our metaphor is a luxury yacht and sailboat that is compositionally a functionally contoured form articulated by rigs and nautical hardware.

The immediate formal reference to the Dhow boat along the promenade to the waterfront camouflages the sleek form of the yacht-like primary mass. The wood and metal screen is a metaphor of transformation from past to present and function to shade hotel guest rooms on the west exposure. The primary masses are prismatic forms constructed of white stone with polished stainless accessory elements in formal reference to a racing yacht.
