Don Ichino's profile

Federal National Council with KEO Design

The architecture seeks to embody a synthesis of the spiritual & rational, the heavenly & the earthly in providing a sanctuary for the seat of government of a free & prosperous society.
Compositionally, the metaphor of Al Falak, Al Markaz, Al Arth (the heavens, heart & earth) is expressed by means of a prominent roof lattice hovering delicately over the Assembly Hall that itself is firmly grounded on a raised platform. The juxtaposition of the three primary components imparts a strong figural quality to the urban fabric of Abu Dhabi in both daytime and nighttime conditions.
The Assembly Hall, the spiritual & material heart of the project, is encased in a glass cylinder binding four equal quadrants, each representing a constituent aspect of government-Executive, Legislative, Secretarial & Community.
The concept places the Assembly Hall at the heart of the plan and can be accessed from all constituents & participants in government-executive, legislative, directorates, community. The shape of the Assembly Hall is of an optimal geometry that reflects the workings of the assembly and has been carefully considered in satisfaction of formal, functional & operational criteria.
