'Celebrating Ganesha in Brent'

‘Celebrating Ganesha in Brent’ is part of the British Museum’s Spotlight Loan Programme of an ancient statue of Ganesha and helps to mark the 70th anniversary of Indian Independence.

My design partner and I were commissioned to create the marketing materials as well as the introduction panel for the project and In the process came up with the logo, colour scheme and a few illustrations which were then incorporated into the exhibition’s design.
'Celebrating Ganesha in Brent' Logo Design & Artwork
The design of the logo came about upon the realisation that Ganesha's head could be shaped to form the letter 'G' which led me to go for a thicker font, one by the Indian Type Foundry. The exhibition dates were added to the logo to give it balance.

Having previously researched the PIxar Animator/Storyboard artist Sanjay Patel who has made it his mission to freshen up Hindu mythology through densely illustrated books in an effort to appeal to a much wider audience, it is safe to say he served as my inspiration for the projects illustrations. Visual research into depictions of Ganesha informed the various details in the artwork such as the broken tusk and the bowl of laddoos. The lotus petals which appear to either be thrown or caught by Ganesha are designed to give a sense of celebration.
'Celebrating Ganesha in Brent' Invite
The invite shows the primary colour scheme of bold neon colours as well as rangoli artwork which relates to one of the workshops in the exhibitions events programme.
'Celebrating Ganesha in Brent' Exhibition Poster (Front & Back)
As Ganesha is known as the creator and remover of obstacles, the illustration shows the elephant-headed God atop a mountain. To differentiate the exhibition poster from the invite, secondary colours were needed with turmeric yellow and mountain greens decided on.
