Formerly a resident of Mountain Brook, Alabama, James Dixon now lives in Birmingham, where he serves as a managing director of the brokerage and investment banking firm Stifel Nicolaus & Company. Outside of his professional life, he is a fan of University of Alabama football.
The University of Alabama’s football team, the Crimson Tide, was ranked number one among the nation’s college football teams by the Associated Press in a 2017 preseason poll. This honor is nothing new for Alabama, having been ranked number one six other times since 1966.
Despite the honor, head coach Nick Saban remained humble and realistic about his team and said that preseason polls mean “little to nothing.” He went on to say that what mattered more was how the team played against the competition. Fortunately for the Tide, the Associated Press is not the only media outlet to have high expectations for the team.
In a recent critique of the SEC conference, USA Today said the division was boring because no other team in the division came close to rivaling Alabama. In the same article, sports writer Paul Myerberg went on to refer to Alabama as the division’s “one and only” great team.
