Organized by peace group Kulna Yerushalayim, men, women, and children from both sides of divided Jerusalem participated in the event. It was a rare moment of shared peace between the two groups as they exerted effort to maintain the peaceful atmosphere, with converted Jewish men even revisiting the Arabic diction they once spoke. Although it only lasted four days, the backgammon event served as a functioning model for the potential reconciliation of both parties in the future.
