Experiencing Animal Life in the Galapagos Islands

Since 2010, Thomas P. Ivanyi has served as the president and CEO of Private Equity Direct, LLC, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Thomas P. Ivanyi is also an avid traveler, having completed a journey to Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands.

Located in the eastern Pacific Ocean, the islands became famous from Charles Darwin’s descriptions of their unique species. Many opportunities exist for tourists to discover the archipelago’s rich variety of animal life, which inspired Darwin’s theory of evolution.

Visitors to Santa Cruz, Isabela, and San Cristobal Islands can see giant tortoises that resemble prehistoric creatures, with species differentiated by distinctive shells. Isabela is also the habitat for the largest number of the islands’ penguins.

Other vantage points for sea-based species include Fernandina, home to most of the archipelago’s marine iguanas and many of its sealions. Tourists interested in seeing large albatrosses can visit Punta Espinosa on Espanola.

Travelers transfer to the Galapagos via the Ecuadorian cities of Quito and Guayaquil. As most flights to the islands originate in the early morning or evening, visitors should anticipate staying on the mainland overnight.
