Macbeth: A Party Political Broadcast

MACBETH

While not an avid lover of the works of Shakespeare's plays, I enjoy them enough to have a few considered as my favourites. Amongst the likes of 'Othello' and 'The Tempest', 'Macbeth' sits quietly as one of the many works I enjoyed studying during high-school.

There’s just something about Macbeth’s ever growing thirst for power, and the insanity that befalls him the further you get into the play, that draws you in. I chose Macbeth as one of my options for a film project simply because I like the character, and that the idea of bringing him into the modern age would be an enjoyable undertaking.

The aim of this project was to work with a student from the an acting course and develop a short film based on a speech of their choosing. And when I discovered that the actor I would work with was a woman, I realised it really could be something brilliant. So we devised a scenario where Macbeth was a growing politician of some sort, perhaps even a wayward rebel trying to garner attention for her cause.
