The calendar of unusual holidays - postage stamp design
The inspiration for this project was the current state of visual design of commemorative postage stamps in Poland. Such designs in the 1960s and 1980s were often executed at a very high level in contrast to current postage stamp desings which are often of poor quality in my opinion.
The project was an attempt to confront the topic of commemorative designs whilst using unusual holidays - such that do not exist in official national calendars. This led to stamps commemorating holidays such as Towel Day, Mushroom Day or Lighthouse Day. Altogether 30 illustrations were created.
The graphic form of the projects was meant to create a cohesive illustration in a set of stamps whilst remaining visually attractive in the form of a single stamp. The key was for the visual appleal to go hand in hand with its functional form, which is crucial in the case of postage stamps.
