Tactile Mural
A small experiment in the transit space that leads from the reception space to the classroom area. We decided to use waste that we could get our hands on and build a tactile mural. The basic idea behind this was to see and gauge better how children interacted with the mural and weather it could be used as a tool to engage them, as well as sensitize them to tactile sensations which could be used to further concepts like harder, softer, warmer, colder, rough, smooth, plastic, cloth, spongy...etc. etc. We aimed at putting as many sensorial and different materials together in the area that they could reach. It was aimed to break the monotony of the space as well as understand how sensorial materials can be used as a trigger to actions or behaviors that could lead to learning.
First rough draft for visuals.

Octopus was very difficult to navigate around materials so that half was changed and something simple in terms of shape. This part was made up using 7 different kinds of fabrics. Starting from the bottom these are:
1. The Dark blue layer is felt. Without any kind of backing material.
2. synthetic Polyester Fabric. On which rectangular wooden beads have been stitched.
3. Towel material with rows of nylon rope. stitched on.
4. cotton fabric with a backing of plastic and bubble wrap.
5. short fur based fabric with cotton backing.
6. door mat. slightly rough texture.
7. Jute fabric.

The trees were made out of scotch bright and ice cream sticks. Baba Black sheep was made using steel scrubbers commonly used in kitchens to clean utensils.
The Bust behind the sheep is made of velvet.

After this the region out of the reach of most children was filled in using left over tiles and bottle caps.  was also able to use some of the waste electrical wires we had on site after the work had been completed.
