Book Cover Illustration: Genre Study
The trilogy of the Spectral Twins covers was for a project of moulding a book cover to look like a certain genre in order to appeal towards a specific market of readers. The story is my own creation, with a supernatural mystery solving genre meant to appeal towards young readers aged in their tween years.
The synopsis is as such: Ashmond and Elmira are proud to title themselves as brilliant detectives, solving mysteries of all odds and ends and keeping record of it all in their notebook. Pretty good work for a thirteen-year-old granddaughter of the local lighthouse keeper and her ghostly twin brother - unfinished business and whatnot. When they come across the biggest real mystery they've ever had, the two trace their notes to realize that all their cases have been mere footprints leading up to this, and that Ashmond's death was no accident at all.
Although the covers match consistently, the illustrations for book II and III weren’t finished in the time limit, so their illustrations are mocked-up. Though the story isn’t actually written out, I aimed to go for over-the-top narratives with dynamic compositions for each book.
