With an old, outdated website using old technologies and methodologies, the need arose for Western Province Blood Transfusion Services to say out with the old and in with the new. With the help of the marketing team, a site projecting WPBTS’ current brand and organisational values married with technology and functionality which gives the user access to important up-to-date information was created.
There are many new features of which the most prominent are the up-to-date blood stock levels and mobile clinic locations and times, the merging of the donor and clinical sites and very importantly giving the client more CMS control to keep news current. Maximising accessibility across platforms and minimising call centre traffic was also a key outcome, using technology to automise and give instant access to many of the queried info filtered through these call centres.
Another great feature is testing online polling on the site which give us insight into the needs or the donors and medical community. Our current poll asking whether users like the new site and find it easy to navigate is sitting on an overwhelming 86% yes! These polls together with other insights will continue to influence next phase rollouts.
We are very please with the uptake and responses we have been receiving on the website. With over 4000 sessions in the first few days of going live, an average of 3.5 pages navigated per session and an average dwell time of just under 4 minutes per session, it is clear that our donors are loving the new platform!
This has been a great project to see come to life, and we look forward to rolling out phase 2 in the next few months.
