WPP’s Stream (un)conference was coming to Africa and Utopia was honoured to be the agency tasked with designing the logo and event collateral. The ‘Unconference’ has been hailed as ‘one of the best tech conferences’ in the world.

Africa is a continent comprising many different kinds of people, places, sights and sounds – there is no simple way to define it. How do you capture a continent as diverse as Africa in a logo? We found our solution in the continent’s most precious resource: Water.

After several days of trawling Google Earth, and vast quantities of caffeine, we found the letters S-T-R-E-A-M carved into the diverse landscapes across the African continent by her mighty rivers (co-ordinates provided lest there are any doubters).

While capturing the spirit of Africa, the rivers also represent the free flow of ideas encouraged at the Stream Unconference. And just as water sustains life, so Stream quenches our thirst for knowledge.
