Blood, Sweat and Beers

We recently challenged five of our designers to each create a label for one of five varieties of home-brewed beer. And yes, the results were delicious *hiccups*.

The contenders: an American Amber Ale, a Belgian Ale, a Dark brown Ale, a Nut brown Ale and an American Light Pale Ale.

Here are the subsequent hops of their labour.
American Amber aka All American

The all-American beer deserves an all-American label. This illustrated design looks at Modern America and some of the great things she has given us: toddler beauty queens, donuts, blow up dolls, trailers and the like, all suspended in delicious Amber Ale.
Belgian Ale aka Belgian Beerd

While German beers are made according to a precise set of rules, Belgians “go against the grain” when it comes to beer making. Inspired by the majestic beards the Belgians are so fond of growing in a protest against the government, this Ale was dubbed “Belgian Beerd”, with the design featuring an equally majestic beard illustration.
Porter aka Dark Horse

Porter is a dark style of beer developed in London around the 18th century, the inspiration behind the colour and tone of this label’s design.
The name is thought to come from the beer’s popularity with street porters, and as horses were necessary in the transport of beer and beer ingredients, they were incorporated into the design.
Nut Brown Ale aka “Drives you Nuts”

Stare at this bottle of Nut Brown Ale for too long, and you’ll start to feel the effects of downing its contents. The optical-illusion design serves to drive you ‘nuts’, so to speak.
American Light Pale Ale aka Stripes & Stars

What says American Light Pale Ale better than a 3D-rendered star spangled banner, right?
Suffice to say the beers were reported to have “gone down well”. Not bad for a day’s work.
