IRAQ 2008 BATTLEFIELD BRANDING

Camp Fallujah, Iraq | 2008
Upon arrival the products were poorly designed and executed.  The product catalog was in disarray with no cohesion of theme or consistent visual communication aides such as icons.

My first priority was to put an end to the inconsistent product development by introducing brand-building into the battle space.  Creating art-direction guidelines allowed the team to produce consistent quality products and also made it possible for all our product development teams to sync our development and production output.  Keeping the message consistent with continuity in product layout, strengthened our message.

Below are samples of the brand created for the Iraqi Police and the use of it's corporate identity that is still being used today.  Creating brands and good use of a corporate identity saves time for the replacement unit and keeps development and production operating at optimum levels.

Above, I prefer to use my own photographs because there is a certain criteria that I need to create products. Unlike combat cameramen who's primary reason for taking photos is documentation, illustrators need photos for commercial reasons.

Below Is a simplified presentation I put together to explain the reasoning behind the art-direction and theory.  It also shows young artist how to draw direction from existing advertisement and discern the subtle differences that set them apart.  Lastly it shows the regional effects on photography and the best possible course to pursue for color standards when photography experience and equipment is limited.
Note:  The word "narcotics" is used in the posters as it was necessary for translation.Drugs translates into over-the-counter medicine while narcotics translates into illegal substances and/or drug-abuse.
"War On Drugs" is used as this portfolio has been created for a western audience.
The artwork was created to the convey the following;all due to drug-abuse.
Notice:  All featured products are unclassified and have
been disseminated throughout Iraq as of July 2008.
