I have found, that if someone is willing to die to take my freedom away, than I have to be willing to die if I want to keep it. It is a cruel arrangement that unfortunately allows the aggressor to set the price for freedom.

"Freedom's On Me"

His home is already filled with reminders of his late son, but now Michael Hornburg has a new and special customized piece to hang up.
Last year, Hornburg learned of the California-based company, Freedom’s On Me, which creates Second World War-style posters featuring the faces of fallen U.S. military members.
Hornburg, whose son Cpl. Nathan Hornburg, 24, was killed in Afghanistan in 2007, contacted the company, asking if it would make an exception and create a poster for someone in Canada. What he got back was “a big hell yeah.”
On Saturday, Hornburg received the vintage-looking poster of Nathan, which he says is probably the most realistic depiction done of his son to date.
“This is Nathan. And this is a good one,” he said.
“I was extremely moved by this.
“I just think it’s representative of the need we all have every to remember the people who have sacrificed for us.”
Hornburg chuckled, recalling how Nathan, a member of the King’s Own Calgary Regiment, was often called the “poster boy” for the regiment because of his height and good looks, and now he actually is.
FREEDOM'S ON ME MEMORIAL DAY 2012 ART SHOW
Cottonwood Christian Center, Los Alamitos, Califonia
Felecitas Harrison (pictured below with husband William) of Cottonwood Christian Center invited Freedom's On Me to put on an art show as part of their annual Memorial Day program. It was a complete honor for us to be invited as they go "all-out" to honor our fallen service members every year.
After canvasing the venue I decided that there would be two identical wall gallaries on the noth and south entrances and a floating gallery in the center foyer. My nephew Micah and I built double-sided hanging frames and painted and textured them to match the granite on the walls and then hung them with satin runners, wreaths, ribbon, and criss-crossed flags to resemble military award medals.
Luckily I was not deployed or was sent out of state, as this was the first show I have been able to put on since I started the company. The show was a huge success with over 7,000 viewers on Saturday and Sunday. The artwork and bios connected well with the guest which resulted in a lot of tears of joy and sorrow mingled together.
A mother at the show had a son who was in Afghanistan at the time. It struck me as odd that she and several other women had their sunglasses on indoors but then I realized after she wiped a few tears from her face that they were all crying. When she spoke about her son I could hear so much pride and so much pain and the resolve to stay positive untill he would come back home.
As for service members and veterans who attended, I've learned to leave them them alone. This is because 90% of the time they are choked-up and paralyzed with emotion. At the show, I saw a friend and senior NCO who was in uniform and working at a booth that day. I asked him how he liked the show and his squared-away shoulders fell slack and his eyes instantly brimmed. I put my right hand up and waved for him to stop and told him "I got it man, don't say anything".
I love this project. I have so many posters to create for the next few years. It's a real honor.
