CAPTURE KENYA 2015

Behance.net
The Safaricom Calendar was launched over the weekend and congratulations to all the photographers who took part. My team and I were on the road for 11 days with a brief to shoot 'Unexpected Kenya' with my route being Nairobi, Mwingi, Garissa, Kitui, Machakos, Amboseli, Oloitoktok, Kitengela, Kajiado and Namanga. I had a great team of guys: John (Driver), Karanja (Locations Manager), Fortune Ngoiri (Producer) and Magunga Williams (Blogger).

Here is my best selection of my top 11 images that stood out for me from each day. Hope you enjoy

1. Graffiti artist guru Bankslave in front of his legendary artwork 'LUPITA'

2. Award winning women's music group Gargar from Garissa town. We shot this on the banks of Tana River. The lady on the extreme left picked up a shell along the river bank and produced sweet music, thats how good they are. By the time we were done shooting, they had attracted a big crowd. Their music is simply amazing.

3. Members of the Kenya paracycling team

4. Ballet girls from Kibera slums. You will be amazed at what they can do with the little they have....

5. Maasai Santa overlooking the mighty Kilimanjaro. He dresses up as Santa during the festive season to entertain tourists.

6. The elegant Mr. Gakunju. His story is touching. 3 months before we met him he had lost his collection of clothes in a fire in Kibera. As a team we came together and bought him 3 suits close to what we used to have before. That Sunday after the shoot he walked round Kibera showing off his new collection. Really cool mzee...

7. Mountain biker stunt guru Robert Macharia....this guy scared us literally with his stunts just on the edge of Lonhro Hse at 6am in the morning. His cock is also a stunt bird, never flinched a bit. This was perfect weather for this shot.

8. One of the Sarakasi stunt guys on top of Sarakasi Dome. One wrong move and I would have been selling my gear to deal with law suits

9. One of my favourites from a Shangilia skating park near Kawangware/Kiuna area. I got hit by the skateboard and it was just day 7 but the injuries were worth it

10. This kids blew us away...hand made cars made of sticks and a few car parts. When we saw and approached them, they though we were kidnappers and spent almost an hour convincing the folks what we were all about.

11. Njoki from Kawangware. She's kept her locks for almost 15yrs. The morning of the shoot she almost cancelled on us thinking we were going to cut her dreads and sell them. Thanks God our driver John knew the son from way back and convinced her we had good intentions.
                                                                            // THE END //
