Biography
Cecilia Uhr is a graphic designer and an aspiring creative advertiser enrolled in the Bachelor of Design Honours program at York University/Sheridan College. Uhr simultaneously freelance designs for her independent studio, Ceciliauhr Co.

 

Description
For this project, Uhr examined reinventing packaging for rawhide sticks for dogs. The product offering includes three different stick sizes. Each rawhide stick has a specific type of dog chosen to illustrate the product size. The mouth of each dog is cut out, to allow consumers to see the product, as well as view it as the “teeth” of the dog. The left ear serves as a flap which can open to slide sticks out, one at a time, instead of putting their hands in. The other ear functions as a “hook” for display racks.

 

As a dog owner, Uhr discovered that the lack of packaging for rawhide sticks is often very unhygienic. Uhr took up the challenge to design a package for rawhide sticks which would involve a minimal environmental imprint. On the front, she developed a specific signage system for the size of dog. The use of diagrams with different dogs’ faces, designed an easily recognizable stick-sizing system for the consumer. The package design is intended to be a collector’s item; environmentally sensitive by being refillable with new rawhide sticks.
 

Photoshop was used to edit scanned drawings, adjust contrast, and colour experimentation. Illustrator was used to lay out the flat package design composition, and create the branding and typography features. Kuler was used for colour palettes of the front diagrams.
